Dry Facial Skin: Winter’s Curse

Dry facial skin is the norm for most of us in the cold winter months. Winter skin is often itchy, dry and lifeless looking.lifeless-looking skin this time of year is something that we take for granted. You can treat many of these symptoms with some great homemade beauty products that will exfoliate and rehydrate your tired winter skin.

Dry facial skin is often a sign of what we are or are not putting into our bodies as well. You need to hydrate your skin from the inside out, so don't forget to sip on plain water often. If you are not a fan of water, slip a slice of lemon or orange in with your water for flavor. Don't forget that drinks like coffee can actually dehydrate you, so drinking them is not a substitute for water. As well as helping keep your skin hydrated, drinking lots of water will also help to keep your appetite in check, so make sure to get in your daily eight glasses.

Dry facial skin often needs to be exfoliated to allow new, robust skin cells to emerge and replace the dry, lifeless ones. Did you know that you can make a highly effective exfoliant with just a few aspirin tablets and an orange? For just pennies, you can make yourself this wonderful scrub which contains both alpha- and beta-hydroxy acids. This scrub is wonderful to fight against the signs or aging, and also helps to fight acne. You would pay far more in a drug store for a skin treatment with these ingredients that don't have the advantage of being freshly-prepared and free of preservatives.

Dry facial skin is often irritated skin as well. As simple mask made with oatmeal and honey can soothe irritated skin and provide excellent moisturizing benefits. Oatmeal is well-known for its healing properties to itchy skin, and honey has been used for centuries as a humectant. Leaving a mask with these ingredients on your face for just a short ten-minutes or so will make your skin feel renewed. Just a mix a tablespoon of honey to a 1/4 cup oatmeal (not the instant kind.) that you have ground up finely in a blender. Apply to skin for 10-15 minutes, then rub the mixture in gently to exfoliate. Rinse well with warm water, and apply moisturizer.
