Lotion Bars: Rub A Little Love Into Your Skin

Lotion, or massage bars as they are also known have much of the ingredients of lotions and creams without the added water. They are made of oils such as jojoba oil and Shea butter and waxes such as beeswax. These are melted together and poured into a mold, much like you would do when making soaps.

Because lotion bars lack added water, their skin softening and smoothing effects are more far reaching than simple lotion is. The lotion bars are held in the hands until they melt, then the melted portion is rubbed into dry skin area. If you want to give a special someone a massage, a lotion bar is an excellent choice to soften their skin and allow your hands to glide easily over their muscles.

Lotion bars can be scented with either essential oils or fragrance oils. If you are a stickler for natural ingredients, essential oils are a better choice. They are more expensive than fragrance oils, because fragrance oils contain some synthetic ingredients, which in turn makes them cost less. You can also use combinations of essential oils in your lotion bars for a custom fragrance effect.

Some people like to add a bit of skin-safe glitter into their lotion bars, but this is a personal preference. If you would like to add glitter to your lotion bar, check out a soap maker’s supply to find a skin-safe version. You can also find your molds for lotion bars at the same place.
