Glycerin is good for stains anywhere, from coffee/tea/juice to just about any type of ink. I know it may sound weird, but I like glycerin suppositories. You can rub it right into the stain. I hope this helps and good luck!
What is glycerin for in homemade laundry detergent?
Why do some recipes call for glycerin in homemade laundry detergent? What is the purpose for it? Does it just change the consistency or is it to help clean better? Thanks!
Also I was wondering what kind of glycerin to use the reg. or the vegetable?
What can I use to prevent clumpy homemade laundry detergent?
Part of making homemade laundry detergent is getting clumping results. Is there some anti-clumping agent that could be bought at a hardware/home improvement store or grocery store.
The recipes I’ve seen have only been for specifically laundry soap (fels naptha or ivory). I think it has to do with the Ph. and possibly additives (fragrance, lotions, etc).
I personally use fels naptha. I like it and think it does a good job. I buy it from http://www.soapsgonebuy.com
Does it matter what type of soap bar you use in homemade laundry detergent?
Hello everyone,
I want to know whether or not it makes much of a difference in using different bars of soap (whether it be body soap or laundry soap) for the homemade laundry detergent. Like, could I just use any soap on store shelves? Why would it have to be “ivory” or any laundry soap?
What should I store my homemade laundry detergent in?
I just started making homemade liquid laundry soap, and right now I am storing it in an old store-bought soap bottle. I want to make make my laundry room look cute and tidy; any ideas for what type of jar or bottle to store it in?
Mine is a very firm gel, I actually have to break it up with my hands. Other recipes I’ve seen say that if it doesn’t gel, you can still use it just fine. As for sudsing, it isn’t supposed to suds hardly at all, so that’s normal.
Here is the recipe I use:
6 C water in a pot, grate in the bar of soap, and dissolve over medium heat.
Then add 3/4 c borax and 3/4 c washing soda, stir until dissolved, which isn’t very long. Also, I notice that it starts gelling at this point.
In a bucket, put 1/2 gallon hot tap water. Pour in the water/soap/borax/SWS mixture and stir. Then add another 1.5 gallons regular temp tap water, stirring as you add. Allow to cool. When it has cooled, it is firm, like jell-o, I stir and break it up with my hand just in order to be able to use it. Also, I have a front loader, so the soap goes into a little cup, and there are different settings for powdered or liquid soap. I have to use the powdered soap setting, or it won’t go down, and overflows.
I don’t know what went wrong, but I do know you can still use your soap, suds or no.
Before you put the detergent in the washer dissolve it in a bottle with hot water and let it dissolve, then put it in the washer, it will be just like using a liquid detergent with no clumping. Remember the size of the bottle maters so all the soap will dissolve.
Is homemade liquid laundry detergent supposed to be less thick than store bought?
We made homemade laundry detergent out of washing soda, ivory soap, and borax, It is very runny and doesn’t make suds in the washing machine. Seemed like it never formed a gel like the recipe said it would. What is its consistency supposed to be? Any ideas what we did wrong? Thanks!!
