Author: Super Luck

Part of your beauty regimen should be moisturizing your face in the morning and in the evening. While there are countless brands to choose from in your local drug store, you may prefer making your own moisturizer.

With the current state of the economy, you will probably save money with a homemade product. Making your own moisturizer can fulfill some of your creative urges. Once you get going, you can fill small bottles with it, wrap a ribbon around them and give as Christmas presents to friends.

A final benefit of making your own moisturizer is that you know exactly what goes into the product and how it is made. Below are some recips for homemade moisturizers. Before making any, you may want to research how the ingredients will interact with your skin type.

ALOE VERA MOISTURIZER

Aloe vera is a great natural soothing and healing agent. You can also it to make a moisturizer. To do so, purchase some Aloe Vera gel. Trader Joe’s carries an inexpensive bottle of it. The only other ingredient you will need is mineral water. You can easily adjust the quantities depending on the total volume you want to make.

- Combine 1/2 cup of aloe vera gel with 1/2 cup of mineral water. Bring to a boil in a small pan and keep on the heat until it thickens.

- Pour the aloe vera moisturizer into a plastic container and let cool.

PROTEIN MOISTURIZER

While this moisturizer may not be the most appealing by sight, it is probably one of the easiest and cheapest to make. You probably already have the ingredients in your refrigerator: eggs and milk.

- Beat one cup of milk and one egg yolk together for a minute or two.

- Once a paste is formed, pour into a plastic bottle.

- Chill in your refrigerator overnight before using for the first time.

OIL-BASED MOISTURIZER

If your skin type can tolerate oils, then this moisturizer will soften your skin. An added bonus is that it is simople to make.

- Combine 1 tablespoon each of coconut oil, olive oil and vegetable oil

- Add 2 tablespooons of mashed strawberries.

- Mix in a small amount (1-2 drops) of vitamin E oil.

ROSE WATER CREAM

Rose water is lovely. Many rosewater brand products are very pricey. You can save lots of money by making this creamy moisturizer at home.

You will need:

- 1/2 cup of almond oil

- 1/4 cup of rose water (can be found at a natural health store or online; make sure it is pure)

- 30 grams of white wax (try a crafts store for this item)

- 1/2 teaspoon of sodium benzoate (can buy this in powder form online or check with natural health store)

To make this cream, simply melt the almond oil and wax over low heat. Next, add the rose water. Let the mixture cool and then stir in the sodium benzoate. Let it set up in your refrigerator.

These are a few simple options for you to consider trying if interested in making homemade moisturizers. There are also many other recipes available online.

No matter which concoction you make, you need to be sure to use an SPF foundation or some other product that adds in SPF protection. Many store-bought moisturizers offer this important addition. You will need to take care of this in another way.

Once you get started making homemade moisturizers, you may want to explore making other products such as masks or household cleaners. It can be an interesting and fun hobby, all while potentially saving money on your grocery bills.

Making your own skin cream: (I’m allergic to lots of stuff like perfumes so I have to make it, even the unscented stuff that you can buy has other strange chemicals in it, most white coloured skin cream has borax in it to make it white.)

    Basic Moisturizing Skin Cream

2 1/2 ounces blended cold pressed almond, avocado or grapeseed oil, wheat germ oil or a blend of them
1/ 1/2 ounces cocoa butter or coconut oil
    1/2 ounce beeswax
4 ounces distilled or purified water
1 teaspoon active royal jelly (optional)
30 drops fruit seed extract (buy at helath food stores, grapefruit, orange, lemon)

Combine oils and was in a double boiler and melt over low heat, stirring now and then. Remove from heat and add water, mix with a blender until creamy. Refrigerate, makes 8 ounces face cream.

(This has a tendency to become oily looking so I only use it when I go to bed as a night cream) It’s a work in progress.

I kind of like Care2 — it’s a huge site about natural and green living. I originally got interested in it because of their great recipes for non-toxic house cleaning and furniture polishes, etc.

In their Healthy and Green Living section under “True Beauty” they have lots of nice recipes for skin and hair care, makeup, bath stuff, etc.

    Hope that helps.

It is usually Calcium Carbonate which heats when reacting with water to create THERMAL heat.Red Pepper powder is a bad idea and your skin may react to it.There are companies that sell warming massage lotion and oil.

Tell me if you can how to make a lotion or any beauty oil with any attainable products, rose petals, rosemary, milk, vitamins,(Vitamin extracts like retin A.)
Sorry if my question’s hard to understand.
Some natural substances I’ll have this late spring will be tea bags, black berrys, blueberrys, grapes, green bells, cayenne peppers, tomatoes, dried (not alive) hyacinth petals, rosemarie, lavender thyme.(I’m trying to be all natural). What things can I get from home?

natural products, even dry, or fresh might look good but its not ok to put anything “healthy” on your face just because its healthy as a food. you can make paint from those fruits and veggies but not makeup, imagine this, some how you make lip stick from blueberry, blueberrys get old right? it will start to smell bad and turn bad.. and you want to put it on your face?
    i wouldnt,
you could buy all natural makeup, but its expensive because its natural. AVEDA is a company that has all natural beauty products, which means lotions, makeup, hair products, even products for facials, massages and nails.

    make your own beauty products?
i was wondering if there were any at home ingredients i could use to make a face mask to make my skin softer and more luminous, i also have a problem with chapped lips…no matter how much medicated chapstick i use they are always chapped and peeling anything i could make at home for that also?

  9. diana says:

for the chapped lips i heard that you should put on some vaseline and take a toothbrush and lightly scrub your lips with them so that the excess skin will get off & do it every day until they become softer.

    and homeingredients?
it might sound weird but it makes your skin sooo much softer.
you take a green tea bag, add hot water, drink the tea or do whatever you want with it, and take the bag with the soaked tea leaves in it, take the tea leaves out, and add plain yogurt. and put it on your face for as long as you like… usually 15 minutes, then wash off with warm water. it might look gross but it really works
