When it comes to interior lighting most people want to concentrate on areas like the kitchen and living room. The bathroom is often overlooked or not given much thought. This is unfortunate because we spend a fair amount of time in the bathroom; it is where we usually get ready for the day putting on make up or shaving.
Why Bathroom Lighting Matters
Without the right bathroom lighting it can be more difficult than it needs to be to do these things. If the bathroom lighting isn’t placed correctly, or if there isn’t enough lighting it can be hard to get an accurate picture of yourself. But you can take care of this by allocating a little more of the budget to the bathroom lights.
There is also a growing trend to make the bathroom more spa-like with jetted bathtubs and steam showers. Soaking in a nice, hot bath after a stressful day is a great way to unwind and recharge. With the right bathroom lighting and some bath salts or aromatherapy oils this can be a relaxing getaway that is easy to achieve on a moments notice. Having a place in the house to relax in itself is worth a little investment.
Types Of Bathroom Lights
If possible it is best to have a couple sources of light in the bathroom. You want a good source of light around the mirror, where you get ready. It’s best not to rely on a single overhead light only because it can cast shadows on your face.
If you have an area of the room that has nice tile work that you want to highlight you may want to add recessed lighting above to show off that specific area. Recessed lighting works great for this.
You may also need a source of light above the shower. This light fixture will need to be covered because of the moisture. You can get plastic or glass covers for this, unfortunately the plastic seems to discolor over time.
With a little thought and a few dollars you may be surprised how much well-planned bathroom lighting can make a difference.
